One of my favorite places in WPB is Don Victorio's produce market on Dixie Highway, South of Forrest Hill Boulevard.  They carry fresh and local produce, at very reasonable prices.  I can usually get away with spending less than 30 dollars a week on fruits and veggies for a family of four.  Service is fast and friendly, so you can get in and out quickly, or linger and chat up the locals. Plus there's nothing quite as nice as a whole bunch of produce piled together on a cool bed of ice, ripe for purchase.

On the Campaign Trail

I've found myself on the campaign trail, provoked by curiosity, for the simple interest in knowing 'what it's like'. As a first-time volunteer, the WPB mayorial race has been a surprising initiation to what seems now like a familiar city.  

While standing aside a widely supported campaign, I have found access to resources I had unfortunately never ventured towards before, including elected officials, hired officials, community development plans, public spaces, environmental preserves, local businesses, residential neighborhoods and community centers. And it has really given me a sweet perch from which to view the city. 

As a volunteer, I gave a commitment to say yes - "yes, I'll be there," "yes, I'll do it." As a beginner, I had no bias, no predetermined talent towards which my time was meant to be allocated. So I went door-to-door in Precinct #2074 - Southwest Dixie Hwy. By foot you see a place differently, and this place has attributes: it has life, activity - people in their homes, people in their yards, people asking questions, gratuitous for the double-sided info cards. It pleases the hell out of me; I am in the presence of the local.

Hello, West Palm Beach!

After living here for many years (please don't make me date myself), I feel like I can honestly say I'm a local.  A WPB local.  And like many of you locals out there, or anyone who is curious to know what's up with our fair city, I thought we should have a forum.

With all that has happened in town over the last ten years, West Palm Beach no longer plays second fiddle to its sister city Palm Beach.  We have our own world class art affairs and museums, nightlife, car shows, boat shows, great galleries, amazing cuisine, and of course incredible and diverse people that make our dynamic city what it is.

To the talented and hardworking folks that make WPB an amazing place to live, this blog exist for and because of you.  The people that put on events, small business owners, city employees,  PBA students, artists, parents, kids...Everyone is invited!  In other words, the entire WPB community.

So yes, if you are reading (and I hope you keep reading), let us know how we are doing, drop in from time to time, or even be a guest blogger.  One thing is certain, we wont be able to make it without the help of other locals who love this town as much as we do.
